The Board of Psychology Meeting at the Wright Institute

The Board of Psychology will be meeting on August 13-14, 2015 at The Wright Institute in rooms 109/110. This is an open meeting, and the Board welcomes you to attend. This is a great opportunity to see how the Board works and how important licensing decisions are made. MA Faculty to Offer Training at Alternative Family Services

Full-time MA Faculty member Dr. Bernadette Torrez will give a training at Alternative Family Services' Gathering Place in Oakland on July 16 and 17.

Dr. Torrez will lead a discussion on "Common Drugs of Abuse and Relapse Prevention."

Jennifer Fowler in the California Psychologist

Jennifer Fowler, MA, who is completing her second year in the Doctor of Psychology program at the Wright Institute, wrote an article, "When Pain Trumps Productivity: Managing Chronic Pain in the Workplace" for The California Psychologist. Jennifer was the CPAGS Student Representative for Division III (Industrial and Organizational Psychology) and the article was the Division's contribution to the Summer edition of the journal.

The article focuses on the issues that arise when chronic pain is introduced in the workplace and how psychologists can assist their patients with the management of chronic pain within a work setting. Six Wright Institute Students Elected to California Psychological Association of Graduate Students (CPAGS) Executive Council

Wright Institute students are extremely well represented on the recently elected CPAGS Executive Council, leading the way in advocacy and broader community involvement. CPAGS is the graduate student division of the California Psychological Association, supporting students in their development as leaders in, and advocates for the field of psychology.

The six new Wright Institute 2015/2016 CPAGS Executive Council members are:

Wright Institute PsyD Commencement Held on Sunday, June 7, 2015

Forty-nine students graduating with doctoral degrees from the Wright Institute in the past academic year were honored at the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 7, 2015. Following the welcome and opening remarks from President Peter Dybwad, JD, and Dean Gilbert Newman, PhD, respectively, the commencement address was delivered by Lonnie Snowden,PhD.

Dr. Snowden is a professor in the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley's School of Public Health. He also serves as a faculty member of the Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholars Program at the University of California San Francisco-UC Berkeley, and in the Health Services and Policy Analysis PhD Program at UC Berkeley. Dr. Snowden is an affiliated professor in the UC Berkeley Department of Psychology.

Grace Kiriakos, MA, PsyD Student, Contributes to Article in Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment

Grace Kiriakos, MA, who is completing her second year in the Doctor of Psychology program at the Wright Institute, contributed to the article, "Maximizing Effectiveness Trials in PTSD and SUD Through Secondary Analysis: Benefits and Limitations Using the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network 'Women and Trauma" Study as a Case Example" for the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment (JSAT).
