Dr. Wood's primary area of specialty is the treatment of addictions, but she also has an avid interest in life transitions and neuropsychology. Her dissertation research investigated the relationship between public self-consciousness (that sense of being intensely scrutinized by others) and binge eating behaviors in adult women. Dr. Wood did her postdoctoral work at Laguna Honda Hospital on the Neuropsychology Service and also worked on staff for many years at the Chemical Dependency Recovery Program in Kaiser San Francisco. She also served as the Clinical Supervisor at the Salvation Army in Oakland for five years. Dr. Wood has a private practice in San Francisco where she works with a broad range of individual clients and couples. Dr. Wood has extensive teaching experience, having served on the faculty at Alliant University, the University of San Francisco, and California State University, Hayward. Dr. Wood is currently on the Board of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group and is the Chair of both the Education Committee and the Human Subjects Committee.
