Dr. Peta is a licensed psychologist specializing in sexual and gender minority mental health as well as public mental health. Dr Peta received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University with emphases in Diversity and Community Mental health and LGBTQ psychology and completed internship and postdoctoral training with the County of Marin, Behavioral Health. Dr Peta also holds a master's in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University.
Dr. Peta's areas of research and clinical interest are in transgender and gender non-binary mental health, LGBTQ cultural competence with clients experiencing serious mental illness, as well as the experiences of students of minoritized identity in doctoral psychology training. The co-author of the book The Gender Quest Workbook: A Guide for Teens and Young Adults Exploring Gender Identity, Dr. Peta has also authored a number of papers and chapters on SMI, suicidality, and mental health in LGBTQ populations. Dr. Peta is currently a co-investigator, curriculum developer, and trainer as part of the LGBTQ Clinical Academy -- a training program developed with a grant from the county of Santa Clara to increase cultural competency with LGBTQ clients among county behavioral health providers.
