Dr. Vargas has specialized in community mental health since 1999. Dr. Vargas completed his predoctoral internship at the Fifth Avenue Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy in Manhattan where he served a diverse population of adults in addiction recovery. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital, Oakland, where he served children, adolescents, and families representing a broad range of diagnostic and treatment issues. Dr. Vargas supervised student therapists at Marin Treatment Center in San Rafael, CA, an addiction recovery program, Pacific Center for Human Growth in Berkeley, CA, and supervises first-year doctoral students at the Wright Institute.
Dr. Vargas has a private practice in the Financial District of San Francisco and treats marginalized communities and adults struggling with anxiety disorders, trauma/Post-traumatic stress disorder, difficult life transitions, shame, grief, and strong inner critics.
