Dr. Kanofsky has worked at the Wright Institute since 1996. He taught Case Conference, Family Therapy and Clinicians to Society. He also served as Faculty Chair, participated on the Faculty Review and Diversity Committees, and continues to participate in the Faculty White Privilege and Accountability Group. Dr. Kanofsky has worked in the mental health field for over 45 years in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, community mental health, and private practice. Before coming to the Wright Institute, he served as the Director of Family Therapy Training at California Pacific Medical Center.
Dr. Kanofsky maintains a psychotherapy practice in Berkeley, where he treats a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, work related stress, parenting challenges and other relationship and family conflicts. He works with individuals, couples, and families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Dr. Kanofsky integrates a range of approaches in his work, including psychodynamic, family systems and emotion focused therapies. He has published articles about psychotherapy integration and has also written about how psychological knowledge can be applied to coping with ongoing sociopolitical stressors, including his doctoral research on adult psychological reactions to the possibility of nuclear war and American Jews’ and other citizens’ reactions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As part of his ongoing commitment to eradicating structural and systemic racism, Dr. Kanofsky has been a member of Showing Up For Racial Justice (SURJ) Bay Area since 2016.
